OMG! I ran across this recipe tonight and cannot wait to try it. What is dulce de leche? Sweetened condensed milk when boiled down makes a golden gooey sweet topping. There are several recipes online so you can search “dulce de leche” on your browser for different cooking methods. The one that is most appealing to me is to make this in your slow cooker. There are warnings about exploding cans when boiling so the slow cooker seems like the safest option.
- Remove the label from a can (or two) of sweetened condensed milk.
- Wrap the can with tinfoil (to prevent it from leaving marks in your crock pot)
- Place can(s) in Crock pot and cover COMPLETELY with water
- Cook overnight in your slow cooker on low for 8 hours (the longer you leave it in the darker the color will be)
- Use tongs to remove the can(s) (they’ll be hot!!) and wait for it to cool.
Ready to eat
Great for dipping apples or any fruit, I can’t wait to try it over ice cream!
* It’s possible the can may rust a bit but this is ok
* Reviews say that regular or low fat turns out great but low fat will be a bit thinner.
How easy is that? Has anyone made this? I’d love to hear your feedback or any advice for best results. Enjoy!
Sharing is Caring!
I have always done this in a pan as well. Makes a great caramel pie like the one from O'Charleys.

Yummm!!!! Hope it's fun and easy for you.
i've always made this in a pan- boil for about 2 hrs- but love the idea of putting it in the slow cooker overnight! Why didn't I think of that? Dulce de leche is great for banoffee pie…yum
