If you look hard enough around your house I bet you could find items to make something similar to this layered bean and rice vase.
I had the glass vase already, it originally came with flowers in it for some occasion and I liked it so I saved it. I had a few things in my pantry and after some experimentation here is what I came up with.
The bottom layer is pearl couscous, the middle layer is long grain wild rice and the top layer is just dried red kidney beans. I used these specifically because they were open and had gone stale, you could try different color lentils or peas layered on top of each other. If you are creative or you want to find a budget-friendly way to decorate a table or a shelf there are a million possibilities. We all have a glass vase or 2 from flowers, a hurricane vase would work the best. Try to think outside the box, coffee beans or pasta noodles even popcorn kernels. Choose beans or rice or lentils with colors that coordinate with the holidays, maybe you could alternate some orange lentils and black beans for a Halloween look or red lentils and green lentils for Christmas. If the vase is large enough you could add a votive or tie a ribbon around the outside, the possibilities are endless.
