One of my Childhood favorites is 3 Ingredient Cherry Dump cake. I remember it was always easy to make and I learned how to make it on my own really fast because it was so simple, hence the name Dump cake. The hardest part was slicing the margarine (we didn’t have real butter when I was a kid) into thin slices to cover the entire pan. I’ve seen on Pinterest and other places that you can use different fruit. We always used cherries, as a kid I didn’t know there were any other options than Cherry Dump cake.
The smell of the butter melting and baking into the cake mix is just heavenly, it takes almost an hour to bake so you have to be patient. Now that I’m a Mom I’ve introduced my daughter to 3 Ingredient Cherry Dump cake and she loves it. It’s something that everybody likes, a great dessert to take places when you are asked to bring a dish. With only 3 Ingredients is so simple to make and very budget-friendly.

2 Cans Fruit Filling, I always use cherry but you could try blueberry or apple
1 box white or yellow cake mix, I usually use white but I’ll use yellow if I’m in a pinch
2 half cup cubes of butter approximately
For baking you will need a 9 x 13 glass baking dish
Step by Step Instructions for 3 Ingredient Cherry Dump Cake
Put the 2 cans of fruit filling on the bottom of the pan, spreading it out evenly.
Pour the box of cake mix evenly over the cherries, just shake pan to even it out.
Cut butter into thin slices and layer over the top of the cake mix. You will use about 1 1/2 of the butter cubes.
It doesn’t have to look perfect, it all just melts into the cake mix anyway. Bake at 350, check it after 50 minutes. If it’s getting dark take it out of the oven, if it needs to brown more give it another 5 minutes. It should come out looking like this.
As much as you want to dig into it right away, let it sit for a few minutes. When it’s warm it’s very hard to cut nice perfect squares. As you can see we didn’t wait long enough so it looks messy but still tasted delicious.
Cover any leftovers (if you have any) with plastic wrap. It’s delicious the next day, it’s completely cooled, the cherries aren’t as strong you taste more of the buttery cake mix. That’s all there is to 3 Ingredient Cherry Dump Cake.
